Karl Lagerfeld sketches of Anna Piaggi
Oh the joys of working at the Library. I get to find hidden gems like this Lagerfeld’s Sketchbook: Karl Lagerfeld’s illustrated fashion journal of Anna Piaggi. And if there is anything I learned from having read The Beautiful Fall is that KL and YSL were influential sketchers, and it was the fountain of their ideas and designs.
KL and Anna Piaggi forged a friendship in the 1970’s, and this book says it all. It seems that he draws this exotic woman night and day, by the number of sketches. There are easily hundreds. Several on one page. And since Anna dares to wear anything, the shapes and colors and patterns KL has created in the book are exquisite. The book was published in 1988, so there really isn’t much current fashion (did she ever use it though?). And it is speculated as to whether or not they are even friends anymore.
The pictures speak for themselves, and since this book is so old, I’m sure it’s a treat for some of you who have never seen it. I know it was for me. I’m slowly going to be posting more books that I have found.
I wish I could scan all of the photos for you guys, but alas, it’d take forever and I’d probably get in trouble.
