A literary take on fashion

29 Jan

I am turning this post into a fashion story inspired by books. But not just any books, these are reads that inspired me as a child/young teen to fall in love with reading (it’s not a secret I am very close to officially becoming a librarian). I thought it would be fun to create a small dream wardrobe inspired around three different books from that time in my life (I’m hoping to spin this into a regular feature perhaps).

To begin, it’s the Baby Sitters Club by Ann Martin. You may remember reading this and trying to figure out which girl you were most like – these are from back in the day when teenagers were trusted to be babysitters.

Baby Sitters Club

Next is one my favorites, Goosebumps by RL Stine, the master of children’s horror. You can follow him on Twitter, which I recommend because he is hilarious. Each book was different, not quite scary, but more or less taught you a lesson.

Goosebumps

Last but not least is a terrific pig, Charlotte’s Web by EB White. Which reading the book and watching the animated movie may have changed my life forever. Who knew that a story about a pig and a spider could teach you so much about friendship.

Charlotte's Web

This shows me that inspiration can come from anywhere really. I’m hoping the references I’ve made in the items I picked make sense! Tell me you read these books once too :) Or please share with me which were the books that you loved when you were a kid, I’d love to hear.

What a cool idea for outfit inspiration!
My faves were the Boxcar Children… but I always seceretly wished they hadn’t found the wealthy relative and stayed in the boxcar a little longer, since that was way cool.

Embarrased to say I’ve never read a Boxcar children book :o

I love this post!  All of your clothing choices made perfect sense and you could tell they went along with the books.  I was a HUGE BSC fan.  I still have all of my old books saved for my kids even though my 6 year old has no desire at all to read them.  :(

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

Hang onto all of them!! They dont print them anymore and people are looking for them all the time. Who would have ever thought they would be rare! They may not be interested in reading them now, but in a few years just wait :)

Oh my gosh, what a neat post! This encompasses so much of my childhood because I was (and still am) such a huge reader. From ages 9-11,  I was “member” of the Babysitter’s Club and received four books a month from the series. R.L Stine was another of one of my favorites. Did you ever read the Fear Street books? They were part of my guilty pleasure reading in late middle school/early high school along with the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty.

Right now, I’m reading Special Topics in Calamity Physics. Have you read it?

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

Have not read special topics but I’ll have to check it out! I’m reading all the time, and because I work with kids, I get to read kids books all the time too, it’s much more fun :)

This is a lovely idea for a post- I definitely read all of these when I was younger!  I was also really into Nancy Drew and the Boxcar Children, ahh, such good times curled up under my sheets with those books! :)

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

So embarrased to say that even though they are classics, I’ve yet to read a Nancy Drew or Boxcar Children :0

        It’s never too late! :)

What a great idea for a post! Unfortunately, I don’t know any of the books so I can’t really relate the outfit to the books but they look great :)

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

All the books are old and for kids! That is probably why :)

Ahh so awesome! I love the BSC one especially. I did something like this along time ago with literary characters too! Jordan Baker from The Great Gatsby, Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, and Esther Greenwood from The Bell Jar. Great minds eh?

I didn’t realize so many people would also have such a strong connection to a fictional pig too :)
