A literary take on fashion part 8

14 Jun

I haven’t done one of my books into fashion posts in a while (if you’d like to see what the others look like, click HERE) and I thought I’d dedicate this one to my favorite furry friends, cats. But I thought I’d also keep it simple by going with picture books this time.

Have you ever read Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag? It is said to be the first picture book for children. Which is interesting to think there really weren’t books for kids before this. The book is about a little old man and woman that lived together but were very lonely. The man seeks to find one cat for companionship and goes very far away, but instead of finding one, he finds tons of them. He tries to choose one but couldn’t make up his mind because they were all so pretty, so he takes them all, millions of them (I’d probably do the same thing). When he gets home, his wife is afraid they won’t be able to keep and feed that many cats. So he decides to let the cats choose which one should stay – they all start fighting about who is the prettiest, until they keep fighting and only one little scrawny kitten is left. That is the cat the old man and woman choose to keep. It has a bit of a silly ending like most vintage children’s books do (it was published in 1928!). So I thought this would be the best way to shot my cat love for Millions of Cats.

The next book I’ve chose is probably a childhood staple for almost everyone. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who hasn’t read it. The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss is a silly rhyming book where a brother and sister are sitting solemnly and bored looking out the window as it rained all day. The Cat in the hat lets himself in and shows them some fun things they can do inside, but their goldfish warns them to make him leave. The Cat starts creating a mess and then brings in Thing 1 and Thing 2, who make even bigger messes. They start to panic because mom should be coming home soon.  And just as they thought they would need to worry, the Cat magically cleans up the whole house for them.

Have I overwhelmed you with cats? I’ve always been more a cat person than a dog person, are you? More importantly, do you have fond childhood (or adult) memories of either of these books?

Oh Eli, this is the ultimate crazy cat lady shopping guide! I am OBSESSED with every piece. I long for those Charlotte Olympia kitty flats…they’d be the perfect complement to my mouse flats, right? ;)

Yes! As usual, I can’t get enough of these posts. I have been known to walk around in cat ears, mostly because my step-daughter likes them (not that I need too much encouragement to be ridiculous, but it’s a nice excuse), and I am LOVING those beautiful lacy ones. :)

Oh yes, I was a big Dr. Seuss fan when I was a child- I think we had almost all of his books!  If you asked me a few months ago, I would have said that I’m more or a dog person, but ever since I adopted my kitty Milton in February, I’ve totally become a cat lady! haha, it’s funny how that happens :)

The comment form won’t load for me on your current post! But you look so effing good in blue, I still had to comment. You look gorgeous anyway (your skin! my god!) but the color really compliments you gorgeously. I’m also wild about your statement necklace. :)

I just said gorgeous twice in one comment. Hopefully that speaks more to how pretty you are than to how absentmindedly  I type.

I’m flattered, thank you *Im blushing!*
