In my own skin

I’ve never made weight the center of my blog, and frankly it never will be. But I will admit that I turned away from wearing more form fitting clothes, and this also got me away from a lot of vintage clothes. I felt a little self conscious about wearing anything that was too tight. I’m quite curvy –  but as I get older, I’m growing more comfortable in my own skin. Curves and all. I’m not a model, I’m just a normal woman.

This vintage dress has hung in the farthest corner of my closet for many, many, months. I’ve stared at it quite a few times wondering if it was finally time for it to go. But as I zipped it on, I could remember why I loved it so much to begin with. It now has me dreaming of finding more Mad Men inspired dresses that accentuate my curves.

Dress: Vintage thrifted. Heels: Dries van Noten from Nordstrom Rack. Necklace: Forever 21.

Oh, and don’t mind those two photographs of me on the fireplace. I like to call those things that are supposed to be hanging but never seem to make their way to the wall.

As a curvy gal myself let me just say that that dress is really beautiful and I think it looks great on you.  I’ve also noticed that I’m not shying away from form fitting pieces as much. I feel like for me it’s a confidence thing…in that I have more of it now than I ever did when I was younger.

Isn’t it funny how your own perceptions of yourself fluctuate? I think we’re also hyper aware of it because we’re blogging. Thank you for the kind words :)

OMG this dress is gorgeous and I’m glad you finally took it out for a twirl because it looks great on you.   They don’t make dresses like this anymore..such detail!! …I am definitely with you on this topic.  Why shy away from certain clothes?! oh hell no.

Thank you Christine, they really don’t make clothes like this anymore!! It’s all bandage dresses now :(

What a great dress and you look beautiful! I love the way you styled it and your backdrop is pef, pictures and all! No matter what out size we all days days where we feel better or worse about ourselves and sometimes acceptance can be a struggle. As someone who’s comfortably into their 30′s now it does get better. I don’t know that I’ll ever say that it’s easy, but it does get easIER ;)

I’ll be 30 next year – but I look at pictures from when I started blogging and was much thinner wearing MUCH tighter things, I kind of get shocked that I’m in fact looking at myself. Granted I was much younger, was in another career path, and living in Vegas where people dress pretty outrageously.

I wonder if when I become a full time librarian soon, I’ll be able to finally have somewhere to work at where I can wear some pretty dresses!

Eli, you look absolutely gorgeous! This dress is stunning and fits you perfectly. Don’t neglect it any longer. It deserves to see the outside of your closet more often!

I understand your growing comfort with your body. I tried to fight my body type for most of my 20′s, but I’ve learned to accept it. And not just in terms of my weight but also with my skin. I’ve gone through periods when I didn’t want to expose my skin at all for fear of showing my eczema and the scars left from it. But lately I just don’t care! Es como es. ;)

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

You are totally right Santina, it is what it is. I admire and am constantly inspired by your style and attitude ! :)

  • http://wendybrandes.com/blog/ WendyB

Dress is beautiful. I think everyone looks thinner in more form-fitting clothing!

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

You are absolutely right, because when I’m not, people ask me if I’m pregnant :’(

  • Sara San

That’s such a pretty dress! I love the beads. I’m not very good with accessories, and I’ve always admired how you’re just able to pair accessories with outfits! Fabulous as usual! ;)

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

I’m not a big accessories person either though! I have about four pairs of cheap stud earrings I rotate out. My sister gave me this necklace and I wear it seldom, but it looked so right with this outfit. Sometimes I like the idea that my outfit is “cool” enough I don’t have to accessorize it, but most of the times its because I forgot :D

Ooh la la! What a beautiful dress on such a beautiful lady. It’s funny, as I was going to say how much I like the idea of filling a fireplace with framed photos. Maybe they’re where they’re supposed to be. :)

    • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

Thank you Rachel :) We’ve been meaning to hang up these pictures somewhere, and they just fit in the fireplace now hiding things behind them!

  • http://www.thrifteye.com/ Eli

Thank you, can’t wait to find a similar  vintage dress soon!

  • Anamika

What’s wrong with your weight? Nothing! That’s what a woman should be! rather than those skinny(veryy) models. They don’t look healthy at all! Your dress is gorgeous by the way <3 I love it! :)

Beautiful! I love the moody hues in your makeup with sea foam accents. It may be early, but this is Holiday to me.
