A fun birthday outfit

How to say this in the most humble way possible…it was my birthday the other day – at first I thought it would turn out to be a casual jeans and tshirt night, but was surprised with plans that required me to dress up. It was a pleasant surprise πŸ™‚ and it was also nice to dress up since there aren’t many occasions to do so anymore (SF: land of the casual masses). I had one outfit planned (a black dress) and then decided to switch it up last minute!

Back in 2008 I wore this skirt as a dress for my birthday (see old blog photo here) and I recently rediscovered it in my sister’s room as she’s getting ready to move. So five years later here I am wearing it as a skirt instead – which in itself symbolizes the evolution of my style over the years. I thought the black and white dots of the skirt would somehow look good with the red and embossed print on the shirt – I put together the outfit flat on the bed, and didn’t know how it would look on. But it actually looked great (which is nice, because in retrospective, now I have something else to remember this birthday for).

I love how the red leopard print from the blouse works so well with the polka dots, but also the faux croc from the heels. So I kept the jewelry to a minimum, only wearing small stud earrings. And my hair sleek as to not add to the busyness of the outfit. It’s not an outfit for everyone, and I don’t see myself wearing this together ever again. But for a birthday that only comes around once a year? Why not πŸ™‚

  • You look amazing, your hair looks amazing, and I love that skirt! I fully believe in birthday celebrations and it’s so great that you had a chance to dress up and go out. Happy Birthday again Eli! πŸ™‚

So sweet of you, thank you Nnenna!

  • I love having a good reason to get dressed up on my birthday. Which I will do, no matter where I am going. But it’s better when the destination warrants it.
Love the print mix, and your sleek, sleek hair. Glad you had a wonderful birthday!

    • Eli

Thank you Lydia, while people dress pretty nice in SF, people rarely dress up in the sense I was used to. We had a pretty nice dinner, and this is what I wore but almost everyone else in the restaurant was super casual.

  • Marie McGrath

I personally like the look- the embossed shirt adds a variety of texture but not too much so that things get crazy and I like how simply you styled the hair. The overall impression I have is one of sleek elegance.

    Happy Birthday!!!!

    • Eli

Thank you Kristian, I’ve kind of consistently worn my hair super crazy and curly for the last few months that its been nice to have it straight once in a while πŸ™‚

  • Julie Van Huizen

The sleeves on that blouse are gooood. A very happy birthday to you Eli!

    • Eli

This is probably tmi, but I’ve always loved pointy shoes cause I have a weird big toe that always fits perfectly into shoes like that!!

  • Eli

Thank you. The skirt is pretty cheap at American apparel and super versatile cause you can wear it in lots of different ways

  • Eli
