I thought it would be a great idea to round up the clothing brands that make and create in the USA into one post, and continually update it (see post one and post two where I originally explored the concepts). For your convenience, I will be keeping this post bookmarked at the top as a page.
My only disclaimer is to always check the tags to see where the items are made, or if you’re shopping online, email the retailer if it’s not clear (sometimes they’ll just say “imported” ORLY?) Even the brands you think are always Made in USA are making things in other countries (something I have been noticing more and more). Do not trust that just because the name of the brand says a state or city in the US that it made there.
7 for all Mankind – mostly denim in Made in the USA, most other clothing is imported
A Fine Line – made in California
ALC – most seems to be made in the USA, some with imported fabrics. Check the label.
American Apparel – maybe you don’t agree with everything else surrounding the brand, but they keep it made in the USA
Amour Vert – Made in San Francisco AND eco-friendly!
Anna Sui – not clear how much is made in the USA anymore, check tag.
Blue Life – in store brand of Planet Blue stores
Brooks Brothers – few still made in USA, most from China
Citizens of Humanity
Clu – most made in USA, some in China. Check label.
Cynthia Rowley – seems about half made in the USA and other half in China.
Edith A. Miller – also a basic website, seems to be stocked a lot at Steven Alan stores and online
Ella Moss – has mostly become made in China, some still in USA. Check label.
Genetic Denim – seems to only apply to denim
Gerald & Stewart – basic website, you’ll have to shop their things online or see their stockists
Goldsign – only seems to apply to denim
Graham & Spencer
Haute Hippie – most made in USA, some in China. Check label.
James Perse – looks like almost all of it is made in the USA, the tees and tops are your best bet, check the label
JBrand – seems to only apply to denim
LAmade – seems to only apply to most cotton items, some knits imported
Lane Bryant – seems only some things are made in the USA, check the label
Lavender Brown – most seem to be Made in the USA, some are not clear
Marine Layer – Made in California.
Mollusk – most seems to be made in USA, some seems to be made in India
Nanette Lepore – she has mentioned that she will outsource some things to China if the same quality is reflected
No. 6 Store – made in NYC!
Norma Kamali – mainline only, check tag
Only Hearts – made in NYC – big focus on intimates but makes clothing too! Organic cotton line is made other countries.
Pendleton – some now also made outside of the USA, check label.
Rag & Bone
Red 23 – small brand with no functioning website, shop for it at various online places like here or in some stores.
Rich and skinny
Sea NYC – some things Made in USA, some in China
Splendid – typically made in the USA, but some imported things have been popping up. Check label.
Steven Alan – can only vouch for S.A. items because the stores and website often sell other brands too
Velva Sheen – no website, but you can shop for it online at various shops like this one
Yoana Baraschi – some Made in USA, mostly of imported fabrics
Online stores where you can buy lots of Made in the USA things!
Modcloth – With a simple “made in USA” search, you can filter through to their USA made items – they also have two of their own designer made brands, Myrtlewood and Bea & Dot, that carry many made in the USA things. Modcloth is great for providing a range of sizes.
Planet Blue – a more bohemian and beachy vibes online store (and sometimes brick and mortar store if there’s one nearby you). You can type “Made in USA” into the search and find lots of things!
Shopbop – I love that Shopbop clearly states where all items are made. I don’t have to hunt for the information or be left in the dark. I hate when other online stores do that! You can’t type in “Made in USA” in the search, but they sell lots of the brands I’ve listed above!
So I’ll try to keep this updated as much as possible – adding and removing brands as I continue to do research! If you have any tips or comments please send them my way!
