Because my sister wore it

Hi folks!

This month has just been…ugh! I don’t get into politics with others much, if ever, but the elections really had me on edge and just feeling overall saddened by the actions of many people. I had no mind to concentrate on any sort of blogging. This was just the cherry on the top of layers of crazy stuff that has happened to me this year. So I will continue to, and urge you too, to find find comfort with friends and family to spread love.

I was able to visit my family briefly, and between my sisters and my mom, we’ve been able to mutually swap all kinds of things in our wardrobes. It’s quite wonderful. So you sometimes see me referring to things here as “borrowed” from my sister. This dress though…we can just say she left it in the care of my mom for some mending and I helped myself to it! It’s just so beautifully structured!

Sister of the bride: fitting room edition

Last weekend we had the chance to take my mom to find a dress for my sister’s upcoming wedding, but we (meaning I) easily got sidetracked when I chanced upon the dream dress you may remember from this post.

Gosh what a lovely dress

Tadashi Shoji Embroidered Detail Lace Sheath Dress

The price tag is totally out of my reach at the moment, but it was amazing to try it on in real life. I hope you don’t mind the terribly awkward fitting room photo with bonus mirror giant shoulder optical illusion

So this dress is actually a different colorway than what I had seen online. The black and white lace mixed together was equally elegant! With my hair combed (not errand running ponytail), makeup and heels, this would be an amazing dress to wear! *sigh* we can dream can’t we!

Sister of the bride : in your dreams edition

Very late night the other day I got an email from my sister with the subject “LOOK ASAP.” I wondered what it could possibly be, and it was only a link to something on the Nordstrom’s website – and behold, after the click, was the most perfect “sister of the bride” dress at the moment!

Tadashi Dress

This Tadashi dress is so perfect in many ways – it’d be one of those dresses you could wear again, and it fits into the theme of their wedding! The only thing that’s not so perfect is that it’s still out of my budget right now 🙁 So I think to myself, maybe I can find a similar one online?

So my search then leads me to this beauty

Oscar de la Renta dress

This Oscar de la Renta dress is currently sold out but I saw one going on ebay for a cool $3000. Infinitely out of my budget.

OH but a girl can dream can’t she?! If it’s this hard to find a dress for my sister’s wedding, I can’t imagine how much more difficult the search is as a bride!

Sister of the Bride

I’ve gotten oddly emotional over my little [to me] sister getting married this August – helping her pick out little details and seeing her try on bride dresses may be one of the weirdest feelings I have ever felt. Maybe because I still think of her as the little girl with a ponytail and playing with dolls (sorry Diana if you’re reading this) and then to see her as a full fledged grown up!

Anyhow, she’s given me the freedom to wear anything as long as it’s cute, wedding appropriate, and August weather appropriate too. Now, let me tell you this has been near to impossible so far! Everything I find is just not quite right. What I like, she doesn’t : what she likes, never seems to be in my size (hmph!) I’m not opposed to wearing a gently used dress if I can find the right one, but I’m leaning towards finding a brand new dress and will share with you some of the stores and their dresses I have been scoping! Recently, I have had my eye on Shopbop after seeing their “guest of the wedding” curated looks.

Since her theme colors are a colorful fuchsia, rich yellows, and azure, I have been looking for solid primary color dresses that fit in the scheme. But so many other pretty ones catch my eye too!

These are my pink/red choices that I’m actually loving, considering it’s not a color I have too much of in my regular wardrobe!

And then I think, maybe something green or yellow!

Honestly, I could go on and on, but even these are tipping my budget! And this is just the first store I’m looking into. Personally, that red lace dress is my #1 at the moment, but many other ones also have my heart. Is it too much to ask for a dress that isn’t too short to wear in a church and that I can wear again in the future when I’m not at a wedding?!
