Hello July

What the heck! I’ve already told you all about my blogging woes and the website breaking! Well…in the process to fix it, it sort of broke AGAIN. All my links converted to a different format and that meant I had to fix 12 years of broken or changed links. PHEW! That’s all behind me now but I missed posting for June in trade. But it’s a new month and the year is half way over?!

Thrift Eye, things I like

At the suggestion of a library patron, I started reading The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez. A story about his family leaving their home in Mexico to work in the California fields in depression era USA. While classified as fiction, it is based on his real life. It is a harrowing story of the struggles immigrants faced back then. It gives a perspective of what immigrants go through now. My parents are both immigrants from a nearby area the author emigrated from, so it is particularly touching to me! Furthermore, I’m challenging myself even more because I’m reading it in Spanish this time!

I’ve been listening to online radio station SomaFM for YEARS! I’m paricularly fond of listening to the Groove Salad station while working because it’s soothing. It’s a curated online station so you can’t skip ahead if you don’t like a song. I kind of like that some days because I can just let it play. The funny thing is, I’ve been listening to the station since I lived in Las Vegas and the company is based out of San Francisco! (where I live now)

My coworkers and I have been freaking out about how delicious dried mango is. Do yourself a favor and try it. Fresh mango is better of course but this stuff hits the spot in the snacks department.

I’m about to start walking to work soon (instead of taking a congested and annoying bus) so I’m looking for a slip on sneaker. This sough out shoe has to be comfortable to walk and that I can change easily out of when I get to work and put on my real shoes. I hate admitting that I’m kind of drawn to the style that looks like a sock attached to a sneaker heel! I feel kind of ashamed about that (because I HATE the chunky ugly sneaker trend) so I need to find a happy medium shoe!

Soon I’ll be sharing some photos of my trip to the SF Everlane store and me mulling over buying some pants there. And then I went ahead and bought them recently. The wide crop pant is my antidote to skinnyjeans.

Hello May

Where did that month go?! Oh yeah, most of it was spent dealing with a broken website. I’m currently absolutely still livid with GoDaddy, who have been nothing but useless when my site has been down and broken. Instead of helping, they want me to pay for an upgrade that is not guaranteed to even work. So I’m currently weighing lots of different options. But that’s a story for another day and time. New month, who dis? May has come like a whirlwind!

Thrift Eye

I just happened to finish and thoroughly enjoyed reading Drive by Daniel Pink. I had read his other title, A Whole New Mind, for a class and really loved it. So when I saw this book at a friends house, I asked to borrow it! I gave me perspective on finding “drive” and motivation within myself to do work.

I’m embarrassed to admit I’m one of those people that secretly really like Drake. Sue me.

Somehow I came across this holy grail of snacks at Trader Joe’s called Bamba. Which apparently is an old Israeli snack favorite. Imagine the texture of a cheese puff but with the flavor profile of peanuts. It’s quite amazing.

All my blue jeans have holes in the now…I’m annoyed but now see that it’s a good time to maybe find jeans that aren’t skinny jeans. All my denim that isn’t J Brand are vintage Levi’s. I need something new. The hunt begins.

I was loving my mixed metal Madewell earrings so much, I bought other ones! But Madewell has been killing it with their earring designs. I really hope they aren’t stealing the ideas from another brand, but I absolutely love almost all earrings they have out right now!

Hello April

How is it already April?! I have been insanely busy at work. Which has got me motivated to breathe life back into this blog! I’m finding some much needed focus. I have a few fun posts in the works and a whole lotta catching up to do! So here are my April favorites. I think this is also my 12 year blogaversary! A whole other post for that is for another day :)

more than a month April 2018

I decided to give this modern classic, Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller a try. I’m actually finding it really difficult to read. I’m still hoping it gets better – I’m just not used to reading stream of thought type of novels. Except that’s what the book is know for!

I’m the kind of person that really enjoys listening to the same old music over and over. So when I accidentally came across the artist Cuco (in an Instagram Story of all randomest places possible), I was instantly hooked! Check out his album here.

My guilty pleasure? Sparkling water from a SodaStream. It seriously is the most refreshing thing ever. I’m trying to convince my coworkers that we need one in our office!

Many years ago, I used to own these high waisted navy blue pants from the Erin Fetherston Target collaboration. (Click here if you want to see an old post with me wearing them.) They’ve been long donated to a thrift store, but I want something like that again. I can’t even tell you how many navy blue pants I’ve tried on in the last few months but nothing, absolutely nothing works! But, I think I may have finally found a pair that works.

I have a confession. I don’t enjoy purchasing things that aren’t clothes/apparel online…I am a firm believer right now that I need to try something before I buy it. So I’m not clueless towards the Glossier phenomenon. But I don’t know anyone personally who had tried any of their products, nor was there anywhere where I could get my hands on samples! So when a pop-up shop opened here in San Francisco, I zipped over! I got a few things, but my favorite right now is the Generation G lip color in Zip! I may have try the other colors eventually because I’m really into a natural looking lip right now. But because I get extreme chapped lips, I need something on my lips at almost all times!

Hello March

I had this idea of a simple way for me to catch up with you guys, as I get all my regular posting back in order. I want to post something like this at the beginning of each month! So I was determined to do this today, even as the clock was ticking and all programs on my computer decided to freeze! I still did it!

I randomly came across this book when someone else suggested it. And boy, was it surely the strangest book I have read in a good long time!

I’ve been craving new music, but kinda lost on what to listen to right now. So as I’ve been driving around, I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I’ve been enjoying our local jazz radio station!

The Bay Area is eons behind in this match craze. I can only get my fix at certain places.

Since going to Mexico in December (the last time I felt warm) I have wanted to plan another vacation. I’m torn between something fun like NYC or something adventurous and far like Barcelona!

In non-stop rotation – every single pair of black boots in my closet. Because A) Rain B) Cold C) Rain & Cold. I can’t seem to get dressed up or want to ruin my other shoes.

Care to share any of your current cravings too?
