White denim for Spring

6 May

So I used to have a pair of white pants a loooong time ago. They were a thin cotton pair of pants that were cut in a jeans style; they were great for the summer! But eventually they got really dingy and I had to throw them away. I finally found a fantastic replacement pair that I will definitely be wearing all Spring and Summer long! We had a nice little week of sunshine so I took advantage of visiting my favorite ocean vista and wearing my sandals! My only worries now are spilling food on myself (or better yet, coffee!!). I guess it may be time to begin carrying a stain pen with me.

Top: vintage denim shirt from Rose Bowl Flea Market (similar one here from Target). Pants: JBrand from Nordstrom Rack. Sandals: Swedish Hasbeens, thrifted.

How are you feeling about this trendy white in your wardrobe? I keep seeing white shoes everywhere, but if I’m already worried about white jeans, I may not be able to handle keeping white shoes white!

with that 1920′s flair

21 Apr

Blame it on all that buzz about the new Great Gatsby movie, or the fact that my haircut had finally reached that really annoying in between phase (doubled when you have an asymmetrical haircut!), I knew it was time to go for it and just get that haircut!

What’s amazing is that because I have had this blog for so long (!) I can go back into my archives and pinpoint the time when my hair was last this short – with reference to this post, it seems to be early 2009. Since my hair is naturally curly, I thought I’d see how it would look with bouncy set of curls. And I actually really like it! I need to figure out how to do these fingerwaves next!

Since I already was channeling the 20′s, I thought dressing up with a nautical touch would also be fun!

Top: Saint James thrifted (a cute short sleeve version here!). Pants: Zara slacks. Shoes: Rachel Comey from Wasteland.

I also got to wear this outfit with my vintage red blazer, but none of those pictures came out for some reason! I only have this close up shot – but glad I was able to capture my cute Sally Hansen salon effects strips manicure :)

I can’t believe that two months ago I had long mermaid hair that would nearly choke me to death every day and now it’s more of a run a brush-through-it-and-go routine! I love it! I want everyone around me to get short haircuts now :)

Neutral & Neon

29 Mar

I have to say, once those wisps of Spring moments happen in San Francisco, you have to take advantage of them immediately because the cold.always.comes.back. (I kind of hate it). It manifested itself in this look, as the title of the post suggests, a mix of neutral & neon. Quite the difference from the previous post huh?

Some days I really want to wear all my colorful things together, but know they simply won’t mix together correctly. Now I’m finally understanding to balance it with neutral colors mixed in.

So I may be experiencing my last Spring Break break ever this week, and I’m going to enjoy it somewhere warmer :) I can’t wait!

Spring in Santa Cruz

13 Mar

Spent the last weekend escaping to Santa Cruz for the first time. It’s a charming little city about an hour and a half away – with quite possibly the best climate in California. It was already pretty warm, while we’re still living in fog and cold in San Francisco (not cool SF). I temporarily lost my sunglasses, so I wanted a big floppy hat to cover my eyes. This vintage one I had seems to match my jeans almost perfectly!

We actually didn’t do too much – we lounged on the cliffs and watched the surfers, walked around the vista with amazing views of the bay, enjoyed the sun, had some burritos, tried to find ice cream, and then drove back home. Nice to know that some sunshine is just a drive away. I’d heard so many nice things about the city from my own mom, who used to frequent it as a teenager (late 60′s or early 70′s) because she briefly lived close by. I want to regularly come back now – on top of exploring more areas of Northern California of course.

Hat: vintage (similar). Top: vintage, thrifted. Pants: JBrand denim, partially purchased with gift card from Net A Porter. Shoes: Target wedges (although I like these summery ones).

I always get bogged down on not exploring my area more – then I remember when I lived in Las Vegas for five years, I got to see very little of the surrounding areas. I don’t want to do that anymore, and I want to take advantage of being able to travel so easily before I can’t anymore one day.
