Marimekko style

I’m not sure how long ago it took me to realize this, it must have been after what felt like the 100th BIG BOX STORE and SMALL BRAND collaboration. I quickly realized I could find the real deal much cheaper most of the time. I’m fairly certain it was right after the Missoni x Target collaboration happened and people went crazy in the stores. So when I saw that Marimmeko was collaborating with Target…I told myself again, I’ll be able to thrift the real deal. And I did!! The same week it came out. I had several kiddos at work (in the library) tell me my dress was fun and bright! (it’s always sweet when a little kid compliments you on your outfit!)

Orla Kiely dressed down

The previous post I showed off my super-duper Orla Kiely outfit that was print crazy! Now I wear the same print top but in a completely different way – better for the winter weather!

It would look like I’m wearing black socks, but I’m actually wearing fleece lined tights underneath my pants after the weather got waaaaay too cold for me. Hence the wool coat too – which was actually an awesomely cheap find! If you would have told me I’d find this electric yellow coat for around $10 at a thrift store, I would have laughed (it’s my 3rd J. Crew coat I’ve found thrifting, I’m forbidden from buying more!)

Yikes, I’ve noticed that my last few outfits here have had a lot of Made in China items. Gotta start mixing more Made in USA items into these outfits!

The idea for remixing items come through though – be playful, colorful, and mix it up a bit to make something that could look the same in all outfits, just a little different.

Orla Kiely dressed up

I have this strange affinity for anything Orla Kiely. If I could, I would buy anything and everything in an Orla Kiely print. But my wallet disagrees with me. It’s also quite difficult to find in the US. So I’m collecting pieces little by little! (I’m mildly obsessed with this UK based shop’s Instagram because they love & sell Orla Kiely!)

This outfit a little wackier than usual for me, but it’s fun! Stay tuned to see how I flipped this outfit from work, to a more casual affair.

Watercolor dress

Do you ever have that one item in your closet you tell your “hmmm, I should wear that” but never do? That’s exactly what I do with this dress my mom made for me. I tell myself these sentiments over and over, and before I know it, it’s been YEARS since I wear the damn thing! What the hell 🙂 Oh well. Besides, I’ve already shared I feel guilty about getting rid of any of the clothes my mom makes for me (one day I should share all the early 2000’s things she’s made for me that I have in a box hidden away).

The funny thing is, I’ve never really known how to wear this dress! It’s a little too short for my every day taste – so I wear it when it’s really warm outside. It definitely fit my lifestyle better when I lived in Las Vegas (where you can wear short clothes most of the year because it’s so damn hot). So when we finally got warm in San Francisco (hallelujah!) I knew I couldn’t skip over the dress again!
