The Huntington

I recently was able to visit the Huntington Museum and Gardens for the first time in my life. I was blown away by the beauty of its grounds and exhibitions. As a dedicated museum lover, it made me wish it was the kind of place I was closer to. Part garden, part museum – it’s really the best of both my favorite worlds!

The other part of me was a “what was I thinking” moment when I dragged my sister and her baby out there in 100 degree heat! I think living in San Francisco so long, gave me amnesia of how hot the rest of the world gets. We were melting! I save all the strappy things I don’t wear in SF for my trips out of town, like this one. I got the chance to wear one of my old favorites! This weird tangly top dress I borrowed (but never gave back) from my other sister.

Summer minimal

I’ve been attracted to wearing solids more and more (even though my heart explodes with wanting to wear patterns and lots of colors!) It just feels me *right* now. I’ll bring the patterns back eventually.

So I’ve also actually been wearing this simple, old skirt quite a bit more now. I’ve had it for a good 4+ years. It’s a skirt made out of three thin layers of mesh, so it’s particularly easy to wear in warm weather – but also easy to dress up or down. Which brings me to this other thing, I’ve turned into that person who wears tennis shoes with skirts and dresses! Sure makes walking up those hills so much easier.

Bay watch: weekend wardrobe

I’m an opposite person, I love to dress up on weekends because I can be so casual on the weekdays sometimes. When I’m casual on the weekends, I feel like I’m on an alternate universe (which I’m realizing is called Earth, and I’M the alien!) My weekends have been full of exploring the Bay (farmers markets! craft shows! ice cream!) and visiting museums in between chilling at the park.

I was pretty bummed coming back from vacation because NYC seemed so alive. San Francisco has been weird lately in case you haven’t heard mentions of skyrocketing rents and the social issues that arise from it (like homelessness and drug use.) I feel very lucky and privileged to enjoy the things I get, I try to enjoy every minute of my life with gratitude! Well, that conversation took an odd turn. And so, here is my bizarro outfit where I fit in with everyone else! I’m loving my new little espadrilles, they walked me all over NYC too! Super comfy. So while this isn’t a typical outfit for me, I was running around all over the city and being casual was essential for the long trek I was on.

Marimekko style

I’m not sure how long ago it took me to realize this, it must have been after what felt like the 100th BIG BOX STORE and SMALL BRAND collaboration. I quickly realized I could find the real deal much cheaper most of the time. I’m fairly certain it was right after the Missoni x Target collaboration happened and people went crazy in the stores. So when I saw that Marimmeko was collaborating with Target…I told myself again, I’ll be able to thrift the real deal. And I did!! The same week it came out. I had several kiddos at work (in the library) tell me my dress was fun and bright! (it’s always sweet when a little kid compliments you on your outfit!)
