Little Red Beret

I made a mistake a few years ago. I stupidly donated my red beret thinking I’d never wear one again. Why?! Don’t even ask me, I can’t remember. But here I am sitting years later, early this month kicking myself because I REALLY needed one again. I should know better than to get rid of wardrobe staples and basics…I’ll eventually want to wear them again.

Then I had to hunt for one all over again and was met with that magic situation where, when you want something, it’s impossible to find! But I was able to find my little hat and I’m a happy camper again. It came in handy for this bitter cold and rainy weather we’ve been having. Especially on days I know the rain and humidity will turn my hair into a big ball of frizz. It’s easy to put on a bright hat and feel more cheerful (even though this weather mixed with the current state of our nation is enough to make me want to stay at home forever!)

Urban hiking outfit

I didn’t expect to take such a long break between posts – I have been drafting a very long 10 year anniversary post for myself, that’s taking longer than expected. But I’ve also recently re-joined a gym, trying to get some strength on my body. All of a sudden, two weeks went by incredibly quickly.

We have a little inside joke in San Francisco (and some of the Bay Area) where there are so many little parks (and some big parks) dotted around the city, we can considerĀ it urban hiking. You can go from city, to neighborhood, to wilderness pretty quickly. So, you dress accordingly. Another reason I’m so glad I finally got my Converse! My favorite and essential SF dressing tip? Dress in layers – you can go from sunny hot to windy fog pretty quickly.

Bundling up

So I finally had to do it, I moved my photos indoors because getting up early to photograph before the sunset just became too tedious this winter. THEN the rains came, which has rendered outdoor photography pretty impossible. I’ve been going to work in boots nonstop – and when I do wear flats, I’ve worn my rubber boots for the commute and change out when I get there.

I also finally forced myself to get a haircut – my usual lady kept giving me this flippy hair-do which wasn’t awful, but not what I would ask her for. So on a whim, I went to my mom’s not-fancy-at-all lady that had given me a decent bob years ago. I finally have grown out my bangs and wanted to have my hair almost all the same length, with a bit longer in the front. She actually did it really well! Because I wear my hair curly and straight, it’s just always a struggle. I’m hoping to just let this grow out for a long time so I don’t have to worry about it.

Because it is a new year and I’ve challenged myself to wear things I never dreamt wearable for my body, and I kinda fell in love with this new dress. Another vintage Ann Taylor Made in USA dress like this one I wore before. I used to be afraid of wearing long dresses, but I’m learning to get over that!

With a swing

I have been feeling extra adventurous with my outfits! And then the winter chill came, oh gosh, this winter chill (I’m shivering just thinking about it.) This outfit was obviously just before the cold set, when we could sort of still get away with wearing bare legs. I’m also trying to get excited about wearing hats again – I have way too many damn hats at home sitting on a coat rack waiting to get worn…

These boots were purchased on a whim. I needed boots, I didn’t necessarily want to get black boots again. And well, I was ready to purchase the black version of these, but then they sold out in the time that I mulled over hitting the purchase button – so these camel colored ones came to me instead. I’ve actually been wearing them quite a bit with black outfits, the color just seems to work well with black for some reason (even though reason would tell me it clashes.)
