A houndstooth

So a little while back, I found this dreamy dress. It’s a little Mad Men, it has a great print, and the length is perfect (I like my dresses to be long enough to wear in and out of work). Back in the 90’s, my mom used to have a few houndstooth print things in her closet. I am my mother’s daughter, I love it too. But finding good pieces in the print are hard to come by. So then, to find a coat in the same print as the dress, but slightly different color variation, is nothing short of a wardrobe miracle. The two pieces just had to be worn together right?!

I look like Sherlock Holmes’ daughter right? 🙂 But I think I hit the jackpot with these two.

Suit for a woman

Are you guys familiar with the term Le Smoking? It goes beyond just a suit women wear, but carries a lot of meaning in breaking the rules of fashion. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea and how to incorporate it into my wardrobe. So when I separately thrifted this tuxedo pant and then this tuxedo type of jacket, I was just waiting for the right moment to wear them together.

This isn’t an outfit to hang around the house for sure – we had a special dinner for a friend that was here from out of town. A classy place, calls for a classy outfit. And AHA! This was the perfect moment where I could wear my Le Smoking. I still felt very feminine, and I think that is what’s so special about wearing a suit as a woman.

Jacket: Akris, thrifted. Blouse: Equipment, thrifted (different color here). Pants: Trouve, from Buffalo Exchange. Wedges: Yves Saint Laurent, from Buffalo Exchange (there’s always a pair for sale on ebay!) . Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs. Lipstick: Revlon Colorburst in Tutti Frutti.

What do you think? As a woman, would you wear a suit like this?

Get off of my cloud

Something about this new short hairdo and my now shorter bangs (hello world, I can see you again!) PLUS the fact that I broke my old sun glasses at the river last weekend, forcing me to rediscover my old Raybans, gives me the urge to dress with a bit more of an old school feel! I’m celebrating that I can wear this skirt again (I’ll touch more on that in my next post) with this striped top and skirt combination that I’m liking because typically when I wear this top, it’s very nautical, and this time it’s not!

Top: Zara, old. Skirt: Elizabeth and James, from Nordstrom rack (similar one here). Shoes: YSL wedges from Rose Bowl Flea Market. Glasses: Rayban vintage thrifted.

Now I’m REALLY motivated to look for vintage dresses and skirts to play up my rediscovered joy for the retro look.

Remix: Away We Go

Another remix post here:

I’ve always thought about this outfit I posted here way back in 2009 when I was still in Vegas. I call it the epitome of my laziness. I like what I was wearing, just not how I wore it (lazy hair day, no makeup, not a single accessory,  no belt!). When I first had the jeans, they were more of a cherry tomato orange/red. After many years of washing, they’ve faded into a orangey color that I like significantly better. This is not only a remix, but a “grown up” version of this outfit 🙂
